a small family owned kennel located in Holmes, NY.  We occasionally have pups or can recommend a reputable breeder.

     You have chosen to buy a Border Collie for its intelligence, loyalty, and versatility.  Border Collies are also high-energy dogs that can prove to be difficult to handle if not given an outlet.  If you are willing and able to spend the time training, you will be rewarded with a lifetime partner.

     Border Collies have been used in a variety of jobs. Worldwide Border Collies are used for herding, but they also participate in popular sports such as Agility, Obedience, Frisbee, Flyball, scent hurdle racing, sled-dog racing, and hunting.  Border Collies have also been used in service work such as search and rescue, tracking, service dogs for the handicapped or hearing impaired, therapy dogs, military, schutzhund, and goose control.
   
     Our litters are raised and socialized in the warmth of our home.  They are wormed twice before leaving and have gotten their first set of puppy shots.  We vaccinate them against distemper, hepatitis, leptospirosis, parvovirus, and parinfluenza.  You, as the buyer, are advised to have your puppy checked by a reputable veterinarian after purchase.  Boosters should be given four weeks after first puppy shots, and rabies vaccination can be given between 3 and 6 months.

     Now that you have an intuitive and intelligent Border Collie, you may think that you can sit back and watch him train himself. Unfortunately, if you try this method, you will end up with a canine deliquent.  The smarter the dog, the more likely he is to find trouble.   Basic training should start as soon as you get your new puppy home.
